Tag Heuer’s next wearable could be both a smartwatch and a traditional luxury timepiece (2017)
When it comes to pricey smartwatches from luxury brands, Tag Heuer $1500 connected sits at the top of the pile. We rated it our best smartwatch for watch lovers last year and high demand forced the company to ramp up production not long after release. It now seems that a successor is on its way, and it could offer a unique feature.
The company has already confirmed that a new smartwatch will arrive this year. CEO jean-claudde biver told the press that the launch date would be sometime in may but Android Central’s familiar with the matter claim it will actually release on March 14.
Interestingly the upcoming device is also said to come with a feature that could increase its appeal while many smarwatches let users swap the straps lugs and clasps tag’s android 2.0 wearable reportedly lets you swap the main head unit module for a traditional mechanical piece with an automatic movement. Hence the name tag connected modular.
If true such functionality could appeal to those who want both a smarthwatch and a classic timepiece that more suited for certain occasions. It’s certainly a better system than what tag currently offers, which lets connected owners trade in their device along with another $1500 for a mechanical equivalent at the end of the two-year warranty period.
With the tag connected modular essentially consisting of two watches expect it carry a heavy price tag but it one that tag heuer fans will likely be willing to pay.
